Hi all,

UPDATE 3/26:
I started a Flickr group for people to join and upload photos. You can request an invite to the group through flickr or PM me your flickr ID. Otherwise, people can email their photos to me.

Spoiler alert! Proceed with caution if you are a recipient and want to be surprised.
Flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/brickset_jambalaya/

----

Welcome to the thread for the 2012 US-Jambalaya LEGO exchange! You can see I've slapped 2012 on this as a challenge for the group to complete a rotation before the calendar flips over.

Let's use this thread for status updates and discussing logistics. The original thread where @jadedanc brought forward the idea can be found here: http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/3988/lego-round-robin/p1

What: A box of LEGO will progress through our list of participants, one stop at a time. The box will be a mixed assortment of elements (thus, jambalaya!) and presumably the more variety we have in there, the better, as it will better suit the diversity of our members and the various applications of our LEGO hobby.

Who: At this point, the participant list is closed. Truth be told, the list is probably larger than ideal, and I toyed with the idea of having a post count requirement as way to inject some trust into the process, but exclusivity runs counter to the Brickset spirit, so let's demonstrate just how good a community we have here and make it a success! Here is the participant list, ordered to make transit efficient and thereby minimize the waiting.

1. rocao: CA (x2)
2. dougts: OR (x2)
3. littletoki: OR (x2)
4. jadedanc: WA (x2)
5. <del>jocappy</del>: WA
6. KulshanGirl: WA (x2)
7. BrickDancer: CA (x2)
8. aimlesspursuits: AZ (x2)
9. <del>fyrmedhatt</del>: TX
10. <del>graphite</del>: IA
11. curvedroadplate: WI (x2)
12. SirBen: IL (x2)
13. sidersdd: IN (x2)
14. Jenni: TN (x2)
15. allmybricks: NC (x2)
16. <del>Yellowcastle</del>: VA
17. MontyKensicle: VA (x2)
18. kks: MD (x2)
19. andyscouse: MA (x2)
20. murphquake: NY (x2)
21. bmwlego: NY (x2)
22. pcirone: NY (x2)
23. back to start of list

If your state is not shown correctly on this list, please PM me. Also, if you have a reasonable request to move spots in this list, let me know.

How: I'll start the box and fill a standard sized USPS shipping box (actual one TBD). I'll mail it to the next person on the list. From that point forward, the process should be:

1. Take receipt of the box (do happy dance)
2. Inform the group the box has been received.
3. PM the next person for their address if you haven't already
4. Withdraw desired parts. At this point there is no hard-fast rule how much this is. Let's just say "If there's a lot of good stuff, don't take it all" and see if a practical guideline springs forth.
5. Photograph your haul. Share it with the group.
6. Choose parts from your inventory that you are adding to the box. It should be roughly equivalent to what you withdraw. Some instances should be easy to match, i.e. polybag for polybag, minifig for minifig.
7. Photograph what you are adding. Keep this to yourself so you don't ruin the surprise, but I think keeping a record of this will keep things on the up and up.
8. Send the box to the next person on the list.

Questions, comments, any glaring omissions? Let me know...

Why: The idea of the exchange is similar to a parts draft in that one person's trash is another person's treasure. While I wouldn't go so far as to say any LEGO is trash, hopefully it will transpire that our bricks find their ways into the hands of appreciative owners. At the end of the day, the shipping costs probably don't justify the parts that one comes away with, so ultimately, this is about having fun, getting to know other members, and strengthening our community.

There's still a couple of months to go, so those of you in GTA should still be able to mark off your calendars for this year's Brickfete on July 13-14. It's being held at the Hilton on Airport Road again, and will presumably have free parking around the back like last year.

Get there early to avoid the queues - we went Sunday lunchtime last year, and queuing outside in the sun for an hour plus wasn't fun - tho' Kudos to Janey and team for handing out water to everyone and trying to get the queue organised to get as many people as possible in the shade. Will be going very early Sat or Sun this year!

If you're in the St Jacob's area, drop by Toy Building Zone for a sneak peek at some of the displays.

disclaimer: not affiliated with BrickFete or TBZ in anyway!

He's been working on getting this going for some time so I'm sure he'd appreciate the support.

"This Wedneday is the first Charm City Lugs Meeting. ReminderL the meeting starts at 6pm and runs til 9pm or until they kick us out. As a recognized LEGO user group, there is some criteria that we must meet. We will be discussing those and the perks of being recognized by Lego as an adult fan club. That part of the meeting will start promptly at 6:30. Shouldn't take long. The rest of the time is to meet fellow fans, play and just have fun. Bring some figs to trade, some sets to build or show, or anything related to Lego to show."

This takes place at the Lego store in Arundel Mills of course. More details are available on the Facebook page (search for Charm City LUGS).

Jamie

I got these awesome Ninjago 2 GB USB wristbands as samples from a Denmark based company. The wristbands are intended for kids with all the Ninjago song by The Fold, a couple of videos, Ninjago-themed school-planners, etc. It also has plenty of space to save and share files, pictures, music, etc. Comes in five colors.

I'm running a fun little contest/giveaway for them. If you are a Ninjago fan,
or have a Ninjago fan in your family you might want to check it out: http://thebrickblogger.com/2013/04/lego-ninjago-usb-wristband/

FYI: USB wristbands are really comfy and a great way to carry around your
data. Other companies make them as well, and they are popular with kids/students, geeks, etc. The Ninjago wristbands however are specifically intended for kids or people with smaller wrists. I can wear them comfortably, but I have a small wrist. (I'm actually happy they are small as I always have trouble with wristbands and bracelets being too big). Anyway, 6 inch wrist would be the max for these.

Have fun!...(c:

Join us for lunch at Sal's Pizzeria, before we head to the South Windsor Public library to hold our monthly group meeting. Please feel free to bring along any friends interested in learning more about our group or that would like to join! We will be conducting a parts draft of 60017 Flatbed Truck, as decided by the members at our last meeting in March, so if you'd like to participate please make sure you bring along a copy of the set to the meeting! As always, you are welcome to bring along any MOCs that you'd like to show off or items to trade amongst the other members (such as collectable minifigures). Maybe you're looking for building advice?
A young LEGO fan just passed away. His journey had touched the lives of thousands.

We tend to think of LEGO as just a toy or a hobby... something to do... something to collect... But for some it is a lifeline to a kinder world. With their bright colors and logical structure LEGO makes more sense then the reality they have to face every day and the fightening future ahead of them.

It is actually quite amazing how many children (and likely adults too - although we don't hear of them as much) use LEGO as a creative medium all the way to the end.

You can read Mitchell's story here, written by a LEGO fan who was deeply touched by his journey: http://thebrickblogger.com/2013/03/remembering-lego-fan-mitchell-jones/

I definitely appreciate just the simple ability to snap my LEGO bricks together more since learning about Mitch...

Guys, I have been contacted by an investment advisory group that is running a contest to build a fun version of the classic piggy-bank. The contest is not LEGO only, however they contacted me specifically to reach out to the LEGO community and invite its members to participate.

It would be fun if LEGO fans would run away with the prizes! It shouldn't be too hard to pull it off with all the talent in the community! BTW, the prizes are very generous cash prizes! First place $1,000, second place $500, etc.

Unfortunately they only got in contact a couple of days ago so there is only two weeks left, but if someone is interested to go for it here is your chance! I'm really busy in the next two weeks and I'm a slow builder but if inspiration strikes me I will enter as well. Also, spread the word in your LEGO clubs, fansites, forums, blogs, etc. LEGO should win! :D

Here is the link with the details: http://thebrickblogger.com/2013/03/lego-contest-piggy-bank/
