Welcome to the thread for the 2012 US-Jambalaya LEGO exchange! You can see I've slapped 2012 on this as a challenge for the group to complete a rotation before the calendar flips over.

What: A box of LEGO will progress through our list of participants, one stop at a time. The box will be a mixed assortment of elements (thus, jambalaya!) and presumably the more variety we have in there, the better, as it will better suit the diversity of our members and the various applications of our LEGO hobby.

Who: At this point, the participant list is closed. Truth be told, the list is probably larger than ideal, and I toyed with the idea of having a post count requirement as way to inject some trust into the process, but exclusivity runs counter to the Brickset spirit, so let's demonstrate just how good a community we have here and make it a success! Here is the participant list, ordered to make transit efficient and thereby minimize the waiting.

How: I'll start the box and fill a standard sized USPS shipping box (actual one TBD). I'll mail it to the next person on the list. From that point forward, the process should be:

1. Take receipt of the box (do happy dance)
2. Inform the group the box has been received.
3. PM the next person for their address if you haven't already
4. Withdraw desired parts. At this point there is no hard-fast rule how much this is. Let's just say "If there's a lot of good stuff, don't take it all" and see if a practical guideline springs forth.
5. Photograph your haul. Share it with the group.
6. Choose parts from your inventory that you are adding to the box. It should be roughly equivalent to what you withdraw. Some instances should be easy to match, i.e. polybag for polybag, minifig for minifig.
7. Photograph what you are adding. Keep this to yourself so you don't ruin the surprise, but I think keeping a record of this will keep things on the up and up.
8. Send the box to the next person on the list.

Why: The idea of the exchange is similar to a parts draft in that one person's trash is another person's treasure. While I wouldn't go so far as to say any LEGO is trash, hopefully it will transpire that our bricks find their ways into the hands of appreciative owners. Get there early to avoid the queues - we went Sunday lunchtime last year, and queuing outside in the sun for an hour plus wasn't fun - tho' Kudos to Janey and team for handing out water to everyone and trying to get the queue organised to get as many people as possible in the shade. Will be going very early Sat or Sun this year!

It's to raise money for the school, and we're exhibiting a number of large scale models, some Star Wars scenes and some City / train layouts. There are also other Lego activities for kids.

It should be pretty relaxed so if you are based nearby it'd be great to see any Bricksetters there. We're open from 10am til 4pm.

We usually have a good number of Lego train layouts and other theme displays and activities, plus exhibitor-only stuff after hours. The Centre will also have real steam trains running and other non-Lego activities going on. Lunch is provided, limited accomodation or camping is available for overnight.

Our exhibition is not just about Lego trains, we've also had displays covering most of the other themes.

FYI: USB wristbands are really comfy and a great way to carry around your
data. Other companies make them as well, and they are popular with kids/students, geeks, etc. The Ninjago wristbands however are specifically intended for kids or people with smaller wrists. I can wear them comfortably, but I have a small wrist. (I'm actually happy they are small as I always have trouble with wristbands and bracelets being too big). Anyway, 6 inch wrist would be the max for these.

Extending a invitation to any AFOLs in Connecticut! Join us for lunch at Sal's Pizzeria, before we head to the South Windsor Public library to hold our monthly group meeting. Please feel free to bring along any friends interested in learning more about our group or that would like to join! We will be conducting a parts draft of 60017 Flatbed Truck, as decided by the members at our last meeting in March, so if you'd like to participate please make sure you bring along a copy of the set to the meeting! As always, you are welcome to bring along any MOCs that you'd like to show off or items to trade amongst the other members (such as collectable minifigures). Maybe you're looking for building advice? Or maybe you'd just like to show off your army of gold chrome C-3PO minifigures. This month we will be meeting in the much larger "Friends" room of the library. This is located on the same floor (2nd) as the seminar room, just look for the folks with LEGO. Rumor is that Cody is bringing cookies but we'll see. ;) New and interested members are always welcome! All in attendace will be entered into a raffle for a FREE LEGO set! Here's the GPS info:

We tend to think of LEGO as just a toy or a hobby... something to do... something to collect... But for some it is a lifeline to a kinder world. With their bright colors and logical structure LEGO makes more sense then the reality they have to face every day and the fightening future ahead of them.

It is actually quite amazing how many children (and likely adults too - although we don't hear of them as much) use LEGO as a creative medium all the way to the end.

It would be fun if LEGO fans would run away with the prizes! It shouldn't be too hard to pull it off with all the talent in the community! BTW, the prizes are very generous cash prizes! First place $1,000, second place $500, etc.

Unfortunately they only got in contact a couple of days ago so there is only two weeks left, but if someone is interested to go for it here is your chance! I'm really busy in the next two weeks and I'm a slow builder but if inspiration strikes me I will enter as well. Also, spread the word in your LEGO clubs, fansites, forums, blogs, etc. LEGO should win! :D

We have a small membership at the moment, standing at 13 members, but we are all passionate about LEGO, and we have met several times in an unofficial capacity. We also have our first event planned, which will be at the Northern Modelling and Engeneering Exhibition in Harrogate, North Yorkshire from the 10th until the 12th of May.
