Brand Recognition by Kids

I could hear my 3 year old son booing at the TV the other day and when I asked him why he said " its not real lego, its a rubbish boat with rubbish peoples". The playmobil advert was on at the time. He now does it to the megablocks and Doctor Who character adverts as well. Is this normal??

As a child, I used to play with Lego, Megoblocks, and Playmobil--sometimes mixing them together and playing with them all at the same time. As I got older, Lego was the only thing that stuck with me. Playmobil didn't have the building/construction and versatility to it and Megablocks were (and still are) just plain cheap: they way they're made, they way they fit together, and no matter how well they were intended to be used with "the leading brand" (Lego), they always looked terrible when I used them in with my Legos. I would say your 3 year old has good taste and is right on with his assessment of the "competition."

@greekmick, have to ask, how on earth does he know that the Doctor Who figs are not Lego? I can understand the playmobil thing, they are clearly not construction, but a lot of the 'Who' sets look like Lego (or I would assume they do to a young child!).
My 5 year old loves the Doctor Who figures and almost certainly wouldnt consider them 'rubbish', but maybe that is because he likes DrWho.

@princedraven - maybe because since the playmobil episode I have now pointed out that Doctor Who and the army ones (can't think of the name) are not real lego either.

^^ Cool, so what you were really asking was "is it ok to train(brainwash) your kids", and the answer is a clear - Yes! :)
My son was rocked to sleep to my sound of my football teams anthem and was made to sit through Star Wars well before he knew that he should like it, it's all very normal... isn't it? :)

Having kids that age too we try and let them have a varied range of good quality educational toys, Lego is obviously the best quality building blocks there is but we've also got Playmobil kits that are good quality "role playing" toys - I'd rather they took their Playmobil digger/dumper into the sand pit than the Lego ones as those bricks would never look the same :) (saying that the Duplo one is now living in the sandpit)
