  • Seems like a new fire station is in order based on the typical 3 year cycle. Perhaps it will be forest themed? Doubtless Ninjago will spin off into whatever direction the new season of the show goes (pardon the pun)
  • Space will be revived by an all new Galaxy Patrol sub-theme based loosely on cuusoo entry Space Marines.
  • Hopefully (which is the term I intend to use, but not insert, in all my comments),

-Starwars will visit more upon its expanded Universe. I think Lego would be crazy not to go further into the Old Republic. I can't wait for the latter 2012 sets, and Lego better go even farther for 2013.
-Ninjago... well I'm hoping for more. Truthfully all I'm interested in are more outfits, dragons, and the odd interesting vehicle (like the Dragon boat).
-LOTR should get another run after, or in between, the two expected Hobbit lines. I don't want to see Lord of the Rings get only one run... it's much bigger than that!
I wouldn't keep my fingers crossed for anything special from City... and as for the Collector's models... they're always anyone's guess. Guessing, for me, is not fun at all.
  • I'm calling a Greek / Roman theme.
Still hoping (and almost expecting) all those Greek and Roman themed collectable minifig series molds (helmets, shields, weapons) will be put to use for such a theme, comparable to how many of the other collectable minifig accessories have already turned up in regular sets. Maybe Lego will even get some more use out of the minotaur mold and the Egyptian Queen...
  • Id love to see Lego release some classic F1 car builds such as this one:

They already do have the Ferrari F1's (2556, 8386, 8157, 8674) with small versions (8142, 8168). There's also the Williams F1 (8461) and even a generic yellow one in the current Creator Cool Cruiser (5767) as Medium Build. Which at $40 RRP, is quite a good value set I may say, from first hand experience.

With the license with Ferrari recently renewed though, just like you I'm hoping for release of new F1 next year.

They havnt made old 60's and 70's ones though, ive always preferred the look of F1 cars from back in those days, but i guess theyre too old for lego to produce if you know what i mean :(

    Check out this beauty :)

where in the world did you find this. i would love for Lego to make a senna ride of some sort, never will happen though
  • That Lotus is beautiful
  • @Legofanscott - those are great. Can you provide a link to the builder or flickr image owner?

Have you seen Brian Darrow's cars? They are on a smaller scale, but excellent builds.

Thats it, 88' Senna and Prost were unbeatable that year, I believe the MP4/4 won every race that year except for the Italian GP
  • I hope that Ferrari license is not just a for the shell.I hope we get next year new ferrari sets such as technic themed or model team like models.
1:10 Technic 458 italia or F12 Berlinetta will be great
  • It would be great if they released all the different classes of drag racers! We watch drag racing regularly.
  • I'm hoping for more Cars, Monsters, Inc., and new trains. I'd love to see LEGO do more with the Toy Story molds...
  • ^ From the prices you have been able to pick up sets of Cars and Toy Story sets recently, I doubt if they do much more.
  • There are shorts for both, though.
  • edited June 2012
shorts don't generate any kind of mass-market buzz. they are a non-factor in driving merchandise and widespread appeal. Kids aren't running around the playground talking about an upcoming short...

We should bring this back on topic - this is supposed to be about themes we think *will* be produced in 2013, not themes we *want* or *wish* to be produced - I think we have plenty of other "I wish LEGO would do this theme" threads already.

Personally, I'm wondering what the next one-and-done non-licensed theme is going to be (in the tradition of PQ, AC, Dino, and now MF).
  • OK. I think we'll see Monsters, Inc. Also a new train. Maybe a new structure like a watertower.
It's given that Monster Fighters will continue. I'm sure we'll get new cars, whether Cars, Ferrari, or Lamborghini.
  • It's given that Monster Fighters will continue.
Is it? This theme seems more in the mold of PQ, AC, Dino where it's one wave, then done and move on to something new. What would be in the next wave?

I like the train and cars predictions, and agree with you on Monsters Inc. Seems logical.

I predict will get an adventure-style theme - ala indiana jones/pharoahs quest. not middle-east or desert themed though (too much done there recently), but maybe more jungle or even arctic style. Mayan/Inca/Aztec ruins, treasure-hunt kind of thing.

New train would be cool, but what about some more TRACKS? level crossing is discontinued, and we have very limited and crappy choices for tracks!

Sorry to stray off topic again!
  • I'm still convinced a Phineas and Ferb line is a slam dunk, even moreso than Monsters Inc., given the new movie coming out July 2013 and the game that has already been announced/leaked. That line will be bonkers with the kids, although they should have done it years ago and had it going this whole time (ala spongebob).

I think they missed the boat so bad on this, given their relationship with Disney, it makes me think something must have been up with getting ahold of the license in the past, and they weren't able to for some reason.
  • Ninjago will probably go down the spiders route, given that they've done skeletons and snakes.
Hopefully City will focus more on the residents, by including communal buildings and shops.
I was about to suggest a Time Cruisers reboot, but the Monster Fighters theme is in a similar vein.

A new western theme would seem timely, would also allow Lego another outlet for their new horses. Might be close enough to fill the adventuring void as well without encroaching the monster fighters. A Mayan replacement for PQ would surely have a monster baddy?

With Atlantis gone there's no underwater theme - might that free up the option of a proper space theme? I know they might not seem related, but I think there is a strong overlap in market/style etc.

Its a while since we've had an arctic theme, so I'd be happy to see a new one of those too. Loved the last one, despite the big pieces.
  • +1 on Western, Arctic, Mayan/Aztec... :)
  • edited June 2012
    OK, here's my call for 2013 ..
    - A full Ferrari theme, in racers-scale, technics scale and city-scale; becoming a sort-of 'racing' subtheme of City.
    - A new steam train, probably in dark red, as a 'Steam Trains' subtheme of trains develops.
    - Monsters Inc will come in, in both Duplo and Lego.
    - UCS subtheme of LotR.
    - Mayan is a long shot but I hope it happens.
  • I'd like to see an art deco 50's era of Lego Town/City. Fins on cars. Neon on ice cream shops. Post WWII when baby boomers came about in the US. The architecture and vehicles were a thing to gawk at then.
  • I'm wondering if the Haunted House that is coming out later this year is indeed a 10xxx set. If it is then Lego may be planning a new Creator line that is a spin off from the modulars.

I agree also that a UCS LOTR theme would satisfy a lot of people who are not happy with the current sets.
  • LEGO is overdue to release individual train cars. Since the RC and Power Functions train sets were introduced, only complete train sets have been released.

    Cheers from Claremore, OK!
    Dave
  • Well, for their one off non licensed theme, maybe a railroad police versus train robbbers theme.(wishful thinking) Or an offroad racing theme sans missles.
  • At AFOLCON, the LEGO Exec VP Mads Nipper spoke about their desire/need to expand into the Asian market. Clearly this is already underway, but perhaps we'll see it even more in 2013? What do you think?
  • A new western theme would seem timely, would also allow Lego another outlet for their new horses.
I hadn't thought of this but it makes sense. I thought I couldn't get any happier after the announcements of DC, Marvel and then LotR. If they also return to Western sets, my LEGO wishlist would almost be complete.

  • LEGO is overdue to release individual train cars. Since the RC and Power Functions train sets were introduced, only complete train sets have been released.
They would not be that great a seller unless they have an engine out at the same time to match.
  • I recall reading on Eurobricks that a Arctic-theme is already confirmed for 2013!
  • UCS Lord of the Rings would be nice. Argonath. yes please.
  • ^ hey, one of my predictions might actually be right!?!?!?

Word is that train engines like EN and Maersk barely pay for themselves as is, given the relatively high number of specialized large pieces required. individual cars are likely DOA for the forseeable future.
  • Lego tried train cars in the past, my understanding is that they never sold well...
  • ^ Maybe there weren't as many train fans as there are now. I would love some rolling stock on my Maersk and EN.
  • Am I wrong to think if you cant even moc a train carriage you're missing the best of lego?
  • ^ Especially when you buy an engine, you normally get a carriage with it so you should know how to build one and could use his for guidance if you don't want to do it freestyle.
  • Well excuuuuuuse me for voicing an opinion...

Here's another one: 95% of the user-created train cars are worthless. LEGO does a much better job designing train-related sets and the Power Functions trains deserve some well-designed LEGO train cars and/or non-locomotive sets. I, for one, would love to see a LEGO CITY intermodal facility.
  • I too would like to see a line of train cars in 2013. As well as other train related accessories. Also I'd do away with the very noisy flex track in favor of a type that performs the same but is less noisy.
  • Am I wrong to think if you cant even moc a train carriage you're missing the best of lego?
Yes, I can't design my way out of a paper bag, my MOC skills are, well, just about zero.

I build Lego to relax my mind, to calm myself, to enjoy the process of seeing lots of little bits of plastic turn into something.

I have no ability or desire to MOC, I leave that to others. :)
  • I could totally understand that for large complex mocs with little similar from tlg for inspiration. But train carriages? My 6 year old is getting the yellow cargo train for Christmas (its already sitting in the study six months early!) and ive already got the extra bogeys train plates etc so he can build his own extra carriages. He'll love that more than the train itself and while his might not be tlg standard I find it hard to see how someone over 10 couldn't make them as good or better than the official ones. Like I say, to me thats the best thing about lego but each to their own. Either way I can't see a range of train carriages coming. It seems the train stuff dont sell particularly well.
  • I think MOC building on an advanced scale is one of those skills that you can learn with ease or you just can't get the hang of it.

Sort of reminds me of coding languages, your either naturally good at it or you can just never seem to get your head around it
  • The instructions are available anyway, all you need to do is work out how to use bricklink (which will probably take more time/ effort than the build itself)!
  • I prefer the whole package that comes with Lego products, the box and artwork, the physical instructions etc, rather than buying each bit and using an online manual.
  • ^ You obviously want something that Lego won't produce, presumably due to lack of demand. Why not buy the carriages on eBay. You will pay a premium, but then you want a premium product if someone else is putting the parts together for you.
