I had a happy experience at my Lego store while buying the four new LOTR sets. I was chatting with the salesperson about wishing the sets were available at a retailer who had a current 20% coupon discount on toys. She said she thought they were exclusive at Lego for a while, but did I have the 10% coupon from the catalog? I said no, so she went in the back and got a 10% coupon and applied 10 % discount to all four sets and threw the coupon in the bag for me! Now I have it to use on the #10237 Tower of Orthanc. Did I trigger some secret Lego VIP program or just run into an extra generous salesperson?

It's amazing the number of people that have qualified their comments in other threads with something like "I have no more room." I have run into this also. I've been collecting for many years, and have gotten to the point of really being choosy now for what I want to buy to build.

Reselling completely aside, the problem is that there are so many sets that I have in boxes and want to build, plus more great sets coming out all the time. Problem is, I simply cannot fit them anywhere else. How do you guys handle this problem?

1) I've thought about building then selling the set relatively soon. Sure you take a loss from RRP, but that's the price of enjoying the original build. This is similar to playing a videogame and selling that while it's still hot, and you can get relatively close to RRP. I do worry about builder's/seller's remorse, however, and wonder if I'll really miss them.

2) Rotating from cold storage. This is ok assuming there is enough storage space to keep them relatively intact. I can't see rebuilding a set over and over and having near the same amount of enjoyment. Plus, when do you draw the line here? Having 10 active sets and 50 in cold storage sounds excessive (though it's easily attainable)

3) Focus on smaller sets. Polybags and CMFs have been filling this role nicely, and I have tended to gravitate to them lately to provide my "Lego fix." They are small, cheap and have relatively good play value, especially when combined with existing sets (many fit into the modulars very nicely - Decorator/Pet Shop, Starlet/Palace Cinema, Ghost & Clock poly/Haunted House, etc.).

4) Holiday rotation. The Winter village sets for us come out of cold storage only at Xmas, as will the Haunted House and other MF sets at Halloween, but every year gets a little more crowded. 5 years from now I see myself running into the same problem as 2, above.

5) Train immunity. When it comes to trains, and their very nature of modular setup and play, I tend to give them a pass and buy anything and everything that comes out. Switching track, car and engine configurations is natural and leds itself to only bringing out bits and pieces at a time. Plus, my boys and I simply love trains. Luckily trains aren't nearly as prolific as other themes, otherwise I'd be buried.

Anyway, how do you guys deal with your own Lego critical mass situations?

I'm somewhat surprised this hasn't been mentioned to date. Unless it has?

Installed a couple of days ago at various stations there are now five Lego Tube Maps at London Underground stations. They show the system at various stages in it's development: 1927, 1933, 1968, 2013 and, most intriguingly, 2020.

Here's a BBC News item about the maps

I popped to visit all of the maps yesterday and one thing I found amusing was the number of people who were looking at them trying to get directions from them. I had a hard time explaining to a Spanish-speaking gentleman that the map he was studying was the system from 1968:

Also the 2020 map has no large sign to indicate that that's what it is:

Anyhow I took some close-ups so people could see how they were done:

Someone probably figured this out and I am most likely late to the party, but could someone please explain to me why LEGO refuses to include any famous Rebel pilots in their starfighter models? Over the years we've gradually had Biggs in the very first X-Wing (made sense) but it took 7 more years until Wedge was made a figure in 6212, but for some reason Porkins is the only other pilot in 9493? Not just the X-Wing models either; snowspeeders have been difficult. It's always been Luke and Dack, tripping the AT-ATs when that was clearly Wedge's thing; Zev Senesca made the Wampa Cave but I just find it unbelievably deliberate excluding Wedge or anyone else for that matter. If someone has an answer I'd be very grateful, or at least a decent way to acquire a Wedge minifigure since I am again, new at this.

I used to go and ship directly from the post office but as sometimes shipping cost seems to be the an issue, I started shipping from EBay as their prices are lower. What bugs me is that yesterday I took 4 pieces of mail to USPS, dropped them off at the counter (as I didn't want to play the "toss into the bin" game) and today 2 of them show scanned on the tracking number and 2 of them do not.... WTF? Come on, how hard is that?
The interesting this is that the items that are not scanned are the two bigger pieces that went out as parcel post... doesn't USPS scan those? Why is there a tracking number option then for them???? hmmmmmmm

This thread is to discuss everything about the myBrickset app for Android (bugs, feature requests, anything really).

For starters, myBrickset is an Android app that syncs with brickset.com for both set information and your owned / wanted sets. It does not require an internet connection (except for updating) and can be used entirely offline - great for browsing prices when out shopping. When connected to the internet, the app will seamlessly update itself with the latest sets from mybrickset.com as well as keeping your owned & wanted sets in sync with the site.

After first logging in to the app, please allow approx 30 seconds for it to download your data from brickset.com. Unfortunately version 1.0 of the app does not show an icon whilst syncing, this will be fixed for the next release.

The app has been tested on as many devices as I could get my grubby little mitts on, but unfortunately there are issues with some devices.

If you find that syncing with brickset.com is not working (ie, your owned sets are not shown), please try the following steps:
1. Go into Settings and activate 'force refresh' then press the 'Refresh' icon on the main screen (this causes the app to override Android's background sync options).
2. If it still doesn't work, go into Settings and activate 'manual refresh' then try again (this causes the app to ignore Android's sync service and do it the old fashioned way).

I currently have reports of the app crashing on Motorola Droid 2.2.3 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.2, I'm looking into these but don't have an eta on a fix yet.

Configurations tested against and working with no workarounds are:
Samsung Galaxy S 2.3.6
Sony Ericsson Xperia S 2.3.4
Acer Transformer Prime 4.0.3
(please add to this list in the comments)

Configurations where 'manual sync' is required are:
HTC Desire 2.2.2.

I have a simple web page at otissoft.co.uk/products/mybrickset/buglist.html which I'll try to update with known issues & fixes.

Does anyone know what the eBay rules are for listing sets where the minifigs have been removed? I see a number of sets listed as 'New' and sometimes which even state 'New and sealed' in the title which, somewhere in the depths of the description, state that the figs have been taken out. I've not been caught out by this myself but have been close a couple of times and imagine other potential buyers could be taken in by it. So, is this allowed or is there a way of reporting such listings? It seems sharp practice to say the very least.

I'd like to hear how those out there with large collections store and sort their lego. And how it affects your build methods.

I'll start. For large collectors I have a medium size collection (about 500 lbs).
I store all my Lego in sterlite craft carts. Specifically the ones with the drawers with lids, that slide out of the cart as a stand alone sealed plastic boxes.
I first have them all separated by color, each color gets its own cart. i then segregate each color along the lines of the brickset categories with a few small differences.
For minifigs I use the acrylic cases from the container store. Both the 2x7 and the 3x9 cases and display them on the wall.
This allows me to find whatever part i need fairly quickly, but does mean that to build anything i need access to allot of drawers of lego. How do you guys sort and store?
