  • Maybe purchase the HH on AFOL appreciation day? Don't forget pocketing the VIP points. This is the point where I just admit to being a huge fan of the HH too and all the minifigs and nice parts that come with it . ;-)
  • Trust me, I considered LBG on the sides. Ha
  • The difference in total number of sand green in terms of stud count isn't that far off and the HH may actually cover it. I'm on my phone so my spreadsheet capabilities aren't up to snuff. We can go back and forth on this some more but the point is, …
  • As soon as I read Jamie Berard's comment (linked above) I started Bricklinking a modified Cafe Corner and have since done the same with a Green Grocer. They're not 100% perfect but they were fun to piece together and assemble with my kids and they l…
  • I got it on iPhone through the App Store. Pointed there through the catalogue. Is it possibly only US? Some of the sets look just like the digital box and some link to the Lego.com description and some - or at least Horizon Express - open up the Des…
  • I have a feeling this reaction to discontinue Grab Bags comes from a small amount of stores that swept up PAB off the floor and put it straight into a bag. I've heard that complaint before...dirt, dust, hair, etc... I'm sure somewhere in some grab …
  • Harrelmusic: approx every 3 months the UK and German (and maybe some other European countries) Lego stores have an AFOL day where the doors open an hour early for AFOLs only and in that hour there is a store-wide 15% discount. .... Ah ha, thanks. So…
  • As for things my kids want -- they're at the age where they are old enough to realize how expensive LEGO sets are, but young enough to think, "Hey, Santa can get 'em for us for free!" Yikes...so this year we're trying a new rule: ask Mom and Dad fo…
  • @monkeyhanger -- what is an "AFOL day"? We've only had a LEGO store in the area for a few months and I don't think ours has such a thing.
  • Great idea. I'm going to put these figs into two calendars with some other add-ons: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Education-Community-Minifigures-779348/dp/B0085Y3MTO/ Even if it ends up being a bit more expensive (and this won't because I'll make two…
  • Toy Store is gone. I didn't realize until I sold mine thinking I'd pick up another if I decided to complete the series. At least isold it for a profit
  • Not only is it good to disclose so no buyer is surprised, but it also lets potential buyers know just how careful you've been in putting these together. Just mentioning it should make anyone feel confident buying from you.
  • I've always been well taken care of by reputable Bricklink sellers. Once a correct part was shipped out immediately to replace the incorrect one, another time a refund was given and a third time a refund was given and the correct parts were sent.
  • That's more of a problem with the fact that LEGO doesn't own or run the LDC's, so I guess it's nice of the LDC to at least acknowledge the VIP. The real disaster at LDC is the PAB sold by weight! Yikes! Is there any way to make that work out in your…
  • @brclark82 Not a bad way to kill two birds with one stone
  • @tamamahm That's the exact same thing we did. We're getting passes this year but I'm not sure what you do if you go back several times
  • I think part of the draw is knowing what all the KC landmarks look like already. Might be worth it with the discount tickets online
  • Nothing cool to check out in the Miniland? I'm guessing no. ;-)
  • Great tip. I bumped numbers down to 10 or so and have just been buying little bits here and there when shipping and fees won't be too high
  • I apologize for getting ramped up at times...I'm stressed because I've spent all my money on anything and everything sand green.
  • I'm on the only thing worse than that, the iPhone. Of course I sat at the keyboard for my 7-page diatribe ;-)
  • Quotes are going haywire and confusing everyone -- me included.
  • Nice contribution to the dialogue @matthew Just thought I'd give a call and report back what I heard.
  • Wow. Only fans of LEGO would require the customer to assess the fairness of purchasing parts over the phone, and whether or not those parts were possibly going to be EOL'd soon, etc... Having just purchased around $50 worth of parts -- a modest amo…
  • Considering it's an abuse of the system I have to question the ethics of it being discussed here. "Replacement" implies prior ownership or filling in for unintended absence (ie, missing or lost parts). I think you misunderstand what they are saying…
  • The first thing they ask you when you call is, "Is this for replacement parts or just a bulk part order?" At least that's what they asked me. I told her I had about 15 different parts and she said that's about the limit of what she could do over the…
  • They need to work out a better system with the replacement parts. It's a mystery until you get it how much everything cost and what you're going to get. Oh well, I guess it's a good service nonetheless. Just not great
  • I'd believe it when they're shipped. :-0 okay, that's just my general naysayer attitude. I didn't think I'd get the dark red slopes for the Cafe Corner until I actually saw them in the bag.
  • I have all the sand green to do the front and sides, so I guess light bluish gray back it is
  • Lego replacement parts are overpriced on most pieces. Plus I have a couple of bags of parts already in my inventory.
  • I bet the back of that is sand green. ;-)
  • @dimefield I agree with that. $150 of money left over after Bricklinking gives me enough to buy another modular building. @mathew I agree with that too. I liked sand green before I even really knew or cared about Green Grocer. In fact, my actual ho…
  • I will say that Bricklinking something can go from "sounds like a terrible idea" to "this might be plausible" to "I'm completely obsessed with this" in a matter of a few days. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but I suppose if the art of the hunt …
  • I'm putting a threshold at about $200 for what I'm hoping to spend on it. I'll probably ignore the handful of orders I've already placed for $10 each...that's some inventive accounting I suppose. There's something to be said for getting to purchase …
  • I agree on the customer service. I was in the Chicago store in the summer and the register was down. They were doing transactions by hand. Old school! I didn't worry much about the VIP points because I only got a large PAB cup. Then when it came dow…
  • @RainingBoroSi02 So did you substitute twice the number of 1x4 bricks instead of the 1x8s?
  • I was also halfway considering not making the back sand green. Half-Green Grocer. Obviously I'm no purist.
  • I have all but decided to build on 32x32, but I do have two 16x32 sitting around under a couple half-hearted MOCs. I was this close (holds fingers together) to building the Cafe Corner on a Blue (ah!) 32x32, but that would have only happened if all …
  • Update -- Evan was selected as one of the members of the Junior Construction Panel. As you can imagine he's pretty excited. Next week he'll get to go to a special event for press and be there for the grand opening ceremony and get to "inspect" the M…
  • I didn't realize the ribbon sets were from instructions -- of course I haven't been to enough LEGO stores to see the same set twice. I do think it's funny they actually refer to it as the "Brand Ribbon" on each store's website like the general popu…
  • There's a free app called BrickPad for iPad that will view LDD files...I haven't made a custom file, but I believe it's supposed to do that too
  • ^NOW you tell me. ;-) Is there a thread in the discussions for BL-ing the Green Grocer? (Kind of a rhetorical question - I'll earch at home when I'm not on my phone) Still waiting on my last BL delivery
  • Looks like the PAB piece is #2...
  • Just a follow up on how long an extra parts order should take from LEGO. For me it came in 8 days from the moment I called. Got the legendary Dark Red 1x2x3 slopes and an assortment of other things. The headlight bricks were cheaper than PAB listed …
  • I've bought about 6 1x4x5 doors in various different looks because I didn't want to pay ~$10 with shipping for the door with the panels...in the end, I should have probably bought that one. ;-) I still like a little custom touch though.
  • @kwilder I opened two browser windows and compared the prices on items from Bricklink and LEGO PAB. Some of them are cheaper, some of them aren't. I ended up getting several pieces from PAB that were a little bit more expensive because I knew they'…
  • @legirl I was able to stretch out the building partially because...and I might as well just admit this here...I bought the set without telling my kids, who would LOVE to see it and help, but now it's on my desk at work. So it was a lot of building …
  • I don't think they'll lower the price anytime soon. They might go on sale towards the EOL, but I'd say if you think you "might" want to get them, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable the builds are. Granted there are a couple monotonous m…
  • @cheshirecat Might try calling them. I had the exact same thing happen - have the element ID on hand: 4623597. Of course it hasn't been delivered yet, so I have the fear in the back of my mind the rest of the order will come with a nice note saying …
  • This might not be in the spirit of BL, but I made 4 wish lists: Cafe Corner, CC Had It Already, CC Purchased, CC Wait for These.... It's great fun to shift items from the first wish list to the "had it" or "purchased" wish list. When I was going to …
